Suzanne, My grandmother, Miriam actually brought your grandfather, Boheeg David Saleeby from Mt Lebanon to Lixington, NC in 1914 to join her husband, David, Boheeg's father, a shoemaker. David died in 1919? Miriam moved to Greensboro for a short time before settling in Salisbury where her brother in law, A.B. Saleeby hed been established since around 1901 in a wholesale produce business. In Salisbry Mariam owned several reatuarants with her 2nd husband, another Saleeby named Fred, Uncle Robert's father. The most famous of these, The Red Swan still draw comments even though it closed in 1949.
"I am a frayed and nibbled survivor in a fallen world, and I am getting along. I am aging and eaten and have done my share of eating too. I am not washed and beautiful, in control of a shining world in which everything fits, but instead am wondering awed about on a splintered wreck I've come to care for, whose gnawed trees breathe a delicate air, whose bloodied and scarred creatures are my dearest companions, and whose beauty bats and shines not in its imperfections but overwhelmingly in spite of them..."
